Eberlestock has been serving up all kinds of discreet CCW bags lately. The most recent launch might be the most practical one yet.
The Eberlestock Fade Flex is a big fanny pack or a small sling bag, depending on how you wear it.
On paper, it has enough room for all your EDC gear and maybe a little more, so we snatched up one from the initial release to see how good it is in the real world.

The new Flex bag straddles the line between fanny pack and sling bag. In the Eberlestock lineup, that puts it between the Bando and Fade Sling.
It’s large enough for a full-size pistol, unlike many fanny packs that max out at a compact pistol with a red dot or a light.
The Flex is big enough for a 1911 or slightly ticker 2011, with room to spare. Like accessories? I was able to comfortably fit a Hellcat Pro with a 17-round magazine, Vortex Defender-CCW, and Streamlight TLR-7 (although the included elastic retention loop is too small for weapon lights).
It even fit a decked-out Walther PDP, although there was only room for factory magazines. No 22-rounders allowed.
The front compartment has a translucent zippered compartment, three elastic pouches, and a loop panel for add-ons like the included magazine/tourniquet holder.

When it comes to off-body carry bags, I’m a stickler for buckles. They should sit close to the bag, not behind your back where someone can unbuckle them and snatch your pistol without warning.
The Flex’s buckle is in the right place, and it gets better. The adjustment mechanism is inside a zippered compartment on the exterior panel that sits against your body. It’s easy to adjust and keeps loose material tucked away instead of flapping around. Kudos to the product designers on that one.
After the soft launch last month, I wore the Flex around town and logged miles of hiking and snowshoeing with it.

This bag is perfect for a pistol, first aid essentials, and a few EDC items. It has more usable space than something like the Bando, and wearing it cross-body on the chest is super comfortable on longer, more physically active outings.
The Flex is the latest addition to Eberlestock’s Fade family. Other options include the 9.4-liter Sling, 18- and 21-liter Transport backpack, 40.7-liter Adapt backpack, and the Brief professional bag.
Eberlestock lists an MSRP of $79 for the Fade Flex.
