It’s more controllable than a pistol and more compact than a carbine. It’s got room for lights, optics, and a suppressor – and it keeps 32 rounds of 9mm on tap.
This is the all-new Springfield Aromory SAINT Victor Pistol, a compelling pistol-caliber AR for home defense that can double as a super-portable backpack gun.

We love a good pistol-caliber carbine (PCC), but the advantage of launching 9mm rounds down a 16-inch runway is strictly legal. It avoids the paperwork associated with short-barreled rifles, but – in terms of ballistics – the cartridge hits top speed within eight to 10 inches of barrel length.
Springfield Armory took a different route by installing a 5.5-inch barrel and an SBA3 pistol brace instead of a stock, making the newest SAINT Victor a pistol in the eyes of the ATF.
The result is a firearm that’s far more portable than a PCC but easier to control than a conventional handgun.
Like Springfield’s value-forward 7.62 NATO, 5.56 NATO, and 9mm SAINT Victor rifles, it comes from the factory with some nice upgrades. The Victor product family sits between the entry-level SAINT and top-shelf SAINT Edge alternatives.

The upper and lower receivers are both forged. You’ll get a 45-degree ambidextrous safety and a B5 Systems pistol grip. The single-stage trigger is nickel boron-coated for a smoother pull. At the end of the Melonite barrel is a Muzzle Drum that directs gas straight forward.
Room for accessories is limited, but the SAINT Victor Pistol does have a short, free-floating, M-LOK aluminum handguard. A small handstop is pre-installed at the six o’clock position to keep your fingers out of harm’s way. The full-length Picatinny rail lets you mount a red dot wherever you please.

I know you’re going to ask, and no, the SAINT Victor Pistol doesn’t take Glock magazines. It doesn’t take Scorpion mags, either. Springfield opted for 32-round Colt magazines instead and the SAINT Victor Pistol only comes with one of them.
That will probably force customers to stock up on new magazines instead of carrying over their existing collection, but these metal magazines have also proven their worth through the years. And is it just me, or does the vertical orientation have an old-school, no-nonsense, commando look about it?
It’s an interesting configuration with some welcome upgrades. If you’re searching for a home defense gun that’s maneuverable and produces minimal recoil, give the SAINT Victor Pistol a look.
Springfield Armory lists an MSRP of $1,099 for the SAINT Victor Pistol.
