Vertx has been on a roll with new product launches that cater to those of us who appreciate understated off-body CCW options. The latest is a line of bags that check all the “tactical” boxes without announcing to the world that you’re packing heat.
The Vertx Urban Ghost line includes a 20-liter backpack and a 10-liter sling bag. I’ve got all the details and some hands-on time with both – so let’s take a look!

Both Urban Ghost bags have several features in common. They’re discreet in any color, with no branding except for a logo on each upper pull. The exterior is water- and tear-resistant. Vertx has been integrating a subtle grab handle into the face of its packs recently, and I’m surprised how much more I like snatching the bag that way than finding the normal handle on top.
The inner material attaches to extra pouches, compartments, and accessories. There are handy places for electronics (including a padded laptop sleeve on the backpack and a tablet sleeve on the sling) and room for whatever else your day calls for in the main compartments.
Should your day take a turn for the unexpected, each bag has a hidden CCW compartment. You can use one of Vertx’s holsters or attach your own IWB holster with a hook-and-loop adapter.
Both bags can fit a full-size pistol like a 1911, although compact or subcompact pistols will work best in the sling. The backpack has enough room for, say, a fully decked-out Walther PDP.

Vertx provides a Rapid Access Tab with each bag; you can put it on any zipper pull but the one on the CCW compartment makes the most sense.
Premier Body Armor sells Level IIIA inserts specifically developed for each bag. It’s either an expensive upgrade or an extremely cheap form of health insurance depending on how you look at it.
I love how casual these bags look. There’s truly nothing about them that draws attention when I wear them around town. At the same time, I never feel like I have to baby them. I can move freely, subject them to wet weather, and get to a pistol quickly if I need to.
Vertx hit the nail on the head with these.
Vertx lists an MSRP of $124.99 for the sling bag and $174.99 for the backpack.
