Not that long ago, AR-15 scopes generally fell into two categories: low-power variable optics for all-purpose carbines and designated marksman scopes for longer-reaching rifles.

Manufacturers stretched LPVOs into the 1-8x range first, followed by a slew of 1-10x scopes. Now, one is going even further than that.

Let’s start with the basics. This scope’s variable-power magnification runs from 1.5-power to 12-power. That’s adequate for everything from CQB carbine drills to pretty precise midrange engagements.

There are two first-focal-plane, red-dot-bright reticle options, ACSS Griffin MIL G2 and ACSS Raptor 5.56Y-G2. Both feature elevation holds, wind holds, and an illuminated center ring for close-quarters engagements at minimum magnification.

You’ll want to use those holds because both turrets are capped. That’s typical of optics intended for quick, minute-of-man engagements rather than the kind of shots you’d expect from a precision rifle.

The 30-millimeter tube and 36-millimeter objective lens keep the overall package small enough for a DMR-style AR-15 or AR-10.

Other nice features include AutoLive, Japanese ED glass, and a lifetime warranty.

Primary Arms lists an MSRP of $1,999.99 for the PLXC 1.5-12x36 FFP RDB.
