If you’ve ever shot an over-gassed AR-15 with a restrictive suppressor, you know that it isn’t a great experience. All that backpressure has to go somewhere, and that typically includes your eyes.

The Breek Arms Omni-Buster charging handle is one way to make shooting with a suppressor more enjoyable (and effective, since you shouldn’t have to deal with watery, irritated eyes).

Let’s break down how it works, how to use it, and how much it costs.

Normally, the charging handle in an AR-15 or AR-10 offers minimal resistance to the gas looking for an escape route from your upper receiver. The Omni-Buster, on the other hand, has internal baffles in the stem that slow gas down as it pushes rearward from the chamber.

Next, a metal lip wraps around the gap between the top of the charging handle and the receiver to redirect gas forward rather than back. Unlike similar gas-mitigating designs, this one works for right- and left-handed shooters.

According to Breek Arms, this results in three times the gas reduction provided by a conventional charging handle.

The Sledgehammer profile also includes oversized latches that will come in handy if you need to reach under an LPVO or larger optic to reach the charging handle. The LE version is available with smaller latches if you’re concerned about snag risk.

Two different versions are available; one for the AR-15, and one for the DPMS-pattern AR10. Both are made from 7075-T6 aluminum and hard-coat anodized for protection.

Installing the Omni-Buster is as easy as reassembling your AR-15 or AR-10. Here’s what that looks like.

Breek Arms lists an MSRP of $79 for the Omni-Buster AR-15 suppressor-ready charging handle.
