Editor’s Note: The Canik TP9SFX is a true competition-ready pistol with a price tag that won't break the bank. For under $600, you get a pistol that is absolutely packed with features. From its crisp trigger, its extended controls, to its ability to mount most standard micro red dots, the TP9SFX is more than willing to stand up against its higher-priced competitors. You aren't likely to find a more accurate and easy shooting gun for the price, and if you are looking to dip your toes into competitive shooting or just want a great shooting range gun or home defense pistol, the TP9SFX might be the ticket.

Canik has changed the entire landscape when it comes to competition pistols. Gone are the days of having to spend over $1000 at the gun store to get something that was truly ready to go out and win the gold. Many guns claim to be the best bang for your buck, but at the end of the day, it is hard to deny Canik their spot on the throne. For around $500, you get a gun with a crisp and short 3.5-4.5 pound trigger and other great features. These guns shoot flat, accurate, and just plain run. They are on the verge of feeling like a customized version of some of the more standard striker-fired pistols, which is amazing given the cost. The Canik fanbase is growing every day, and with it, the aftermarket is catching up quickly. My personal TP9SFX is among the most accurate of my handguns, and it boosts my confidence as a shooter every time I take it out. If you aren't sold yet, Nils Jonasson used his Canik to capture the 2021 USPSA National Production Class Championship gold.

Hands down, the TP9SFX is the best budget competition gun out of the box. Mine has been laser accurate, and the trigger is better than most striker-fired offerings out there. The optics mount seems solid so far, but it is a little high. The control scheme is great for medium hands, and the gun is easy to shoot. The only reason I can't give this 5/5 is because I did have a break-in period and I ended up swapping to the Canik "red" springs to ensure full reliability with 115 gr ammo. Aside from the break-in period, everything else about this gun is awesome for the price.
Canik triggers are really good out of the box, and you can't beat getting extra mags, a case, cleaning tools, and extra optic mounting plates for different configurations for the price. I can confirm the issue with light ammo. This can be dodged by breaking in the gun with 124gr ammo for several 100 rounds, and I haven't had any problems with 115gr ammo since.
