The Colt Government Series 70 is based on the original 1911 without the passive firing pin safety. These Government models feature a series 70 firing system, a 5-inch forged stainless steel barrel, short trigger, spur hammer, checkered grips, GI-style sights, and a CNC-machined forged stainless slide and frame. While these are new production Colt guns, they maintain the classic styling and design that makes the 1911 so popular.

final verdict
“The Colt Government 70 series 1911 is an attempt to capture the essence of the original style 1911. While this gun oozes style, especially with the Colt rollmark, it falls short in other areas. Poor fitment of parts such as the trigger and grip safety leads to rattling and a cheap feel. Additionally, my model has deep tool marks inside the slide that are reflective of poor machining and/or finish. I also have to use Wilson Combat or different aftermarket magazines, as the included Colt mags cause failures to feed. The trigger pull itself is good, but nothing to write home about, and the match-grade barrel does produce solid accuracy. However, with a name like Colt and a price-tag to match, I expect better.” – Wyatt Sloan
