“The Ruger LC Carbine is an accurate, lightweight, and compact rifle chambered in 5.7x28mm. It ran reliably through our admittedly limited test and did so with the low recoil associated with the round.” – Sean Curtis

Product Description

The Ruger LC Carbine is a compact, reliable and powerful semi-auto rifle. It’s unique system accepts Ruger 5.7 magazines, allowing for a perfect partnership in shared mag use between this carbine and the Ruger 5.7 pistol. The LC Carbine weighs under 6 lbs and maintains the same controls as its pistol counterpart. The bolt-over-barrel design gives the shooter a well-balanced and stable platform. The folding stock features adjustable length-of-pull and has a reversible folding design, making it intuitive for lefties and right-handed shooters. The charging handle is also reversible. A 16.25″ barrel is threaded for a muzzle device and comes with a thread protector from Ruger.

By The Numbers - Ruger LC Carbine

Accuracy
We had no trouble hitting 4-inch targets at 10-25 yards
Reliability
Though our test wasn't super extensive, the gun loaded, fed, and ran well.
Customization
The platform is fairly new, so there aren't many LC Carbine specific accessories. The threaded muzzle and M-LOK and Picatinny rails provide ample room for attachments.
Ergonomics
The ergos of the LC Carbine are good; that said, it might be tough for smaller hands to navigate.

FN PS90

FN PS90

$1,705.99

Whether it’s video games, Stargate, or crazy-looking space guns, everyone can find a reason they want a PS90. FN designed the PS90 around the 5.7x28mm cartridge to create a carbine that offers a lot of firepower in a small package. While they can’t sell the original short 10.5-inch barreled model over the counter, the 16-inch PS90 is the next best thing. Although it looks strange, the gun is oddly ergonomic and is 100 percent ambidextrous — it even ejects downwards. Even though it is a direct-blowback gun, the 5.7x28mm cartridge is so light recoiling that your trigger finger will get tired running through the 50-round magazines before your shoulder does. The factory options for mounting optics leave much to be desired, but luckily the aftermarket has you covered. If you can stomach the cost of the gun and the ammo, then you will end up with a gun that is nearly unmatched in firepower for its size and weight.

CZ Scorpion Evo 3 S1 Carbine

$1,088.28

CZ’s Scorpion EVO 3 S1 is an awesome rifle.  It’s well made, easy to control, and has looks to die for. The market for this rifle is growing rapidly with a lot of companies introducing more and more custom parts for the Scorpion. Not to mention, it dominates in the accuracy department! It has a nice, long, sight radius, with excellent stock iron sights — this makes shooting accurately easy.

Beretta CX4 Storm

$790.99

The Beretta CX4 Storm is one of the earlier entries into the world of modern pistol-caliber carbines. Its simple direct blowback system has helped cement its status as an extremely reliable gun. Solid ergonomics make the gun feel slick and easy to point, but the gun is almost 20 years old, and it is starting to show.

final verdict

“The LC Carbine is a cool new offering that expands the number of long guns capable of firing this somewhat unique round. Ruger stuck to the playbook and made the gun light and concealable. Our limited test showed it to be reliable and very accurate. The LC Carbine has also got some great potential for evolving to suit various shooter needs — I, for one, am excited to see how it grows.” – Sean Curtis
