But Kevin Brittingham’s brainchild, the 8.6 Blackout cartridge, is challenging that logic.

Bear Creek Arsenal is the latest manufacturer to support 8.6 BLK, and this time, it’s not in a carbine but a trio of AR pistols. These new additions join the company’s existing 16-inch 8.6 BLK carbine.

The new Bear Creek Arsenal AR-10 pistols come in three barrel lengths: 12.5 inches, 10.5 inches, and 7.5 inches (if you dare).

Across the board, these pistols come with a right-side charging handle that’s a little bit different from the standard AR setup.

Basic pistol braces (save for a handy quick detach point) and A2-style pistol grips keep costs down, allowing for that beefy SOCOM-profile barrel with a 1:3 twist.

All three models get a full-length Picatinny top rail and M-LOK handguard, but handguard lengths vary based on barrel length.

The good news is that you can have any magazine you want with these pistols. The bad news is that you’ll be buying it separately because they don’t come with any (another cost-saving measure).

Speaking of price, these come in right under the $1,000 mark. Bear Creek Arsenal lists an MSRP of $995 across the new line of 8.6 BLK AR pistols.

This isn’t the first time someone has put the massive cartridge through an AR pistol. Even though it’s big, it doesn’t punish the shooter as much as you might expect. It may make for a pretty compelling truck gun for people who live in alligator or brown bear country.

If you prefer something a little more conventional, just hang tight. Bear Creek Arsenal announced that .308 Win pistol variants are on the way.
