Remember SHOT Show 2025 way back in January? That’s when Military Armament Corporation announced a new PDW, and it’s finally here!

The Military Armament Corporation MAC IX is a more affordable alternative to the company’s MAC 5K (which is a more affordable take on the HK MP5). It looks like one heck of a home defense option, if you ask me.

Let’s dig into the specs and see what’s up with this eye-catching personal defense weapon, shall we?

Like its older sibling, the MAC IX is a 9mm PDW that takes 30-round MP5 magazines (and it comes with two of them).

But this one uses a direct-blowback action that’s less complicated and less expensive than the roller-delayed action in the MAC 5 and MAC 5K. That should add a little bit of recoil, but this is still 9mm we’re talking about.

The controls and general layout are also different. The MAC IX takes notes from the AR platform, with a safety, charging handle, takedown pins, and pistol grip that will feel familiar to anyone with time on an AR-15.

A full-length Picatinny rail tops the anodized aluminum upper, with adjustable, removable iron sights from the factory. A few M-LOK slots complete the stubby handguard.

There’s another section of Picatinny rail on the rear of the lower receiver so you can add a folding pistol brace.

Finally, the barrel features 1/2x28 threads and a tri-lug suppressor mount.

Firearms in this category are enjoying some time in the spotlight, presumably because people are realizing how versatile they are.

They offer more points of contact than a handgun, but still use the 9mm ammo we know and trust. They’re small enough to tuck in a backpack or keep in the car, but large enough to accurately engage targets well beyond handgun distances.

If you want to add accessories like a red dot, weapon light, or suppressor, the sky is the limit.

Military Armament Corporation lists an MSRP of $832.99 for the MAC IX.
