Don’t you just hate changing red dot batteries? So do we. I guess that’s why Olight made the Osight, a rechargeable red dot that you can top off wirelessly.
Now, there are two new Osight pistol optics on the scene. The Osight X is an updated version of the original, and the Osight X is a more rugged enclosed emitter that’s small enough for your EDC pistol.

Some things haven’t changed from the original Osight pistol optic. Both versions use Olight’s magnetic battery bank cover to charge wirelessly. The cover itself charges with a USB-C cord, and you can monitor the battery level of each with LED indicators.
Brightness adjusts automatically, and you can also choose from 10 daytime and two nightime brightness settings manually. Both new models feature a shake-awake function.
The Osight X is an updated version of the original Osight with a multi-reticle that lets you choose a three-MOA dot, a 32-MOA ring, or both.
Battery life drops from 70,000 hours on the first-generation Osight to 57,000 hours on the new Osight X. Both ratings use the lowest brightness setting and a dot reticle.
Like its predecessor, the Osight X uses the RMR footprint and has a 0.94- by 0.85-inch window. It comes with a Picatinny adapter for those who want to use it as a primary or backup optic on a carbine, shotgun, or PCC.
The Osight’s IPX6 waterproof rating in unchanged on the Osight X.
The Osight S is a new enclosed-emitter optic for concealed-carry pistols. It’s more compact, with a 0.83- by 0.55-inch window and the reticle is slightly different – this time with a two-MOA dot, a 32-MOA ring, or both.
Since it’s designed for smaller pistols, the Osight S uses the smaller RMSc footprint. The compact enclosed housing is more water-resistant, with an IPX7 rating.
Battery life is shortened even further on the Osight S, at 29,100 hours.
It’s never fun to see battery performance drop, but the pain is lessened by the ability to recharge wirelessly using the magnetic charging cover.
What about you? Would you prefer a rechargeable optic to swapping out batteries every year or so?
Olight lists an MSRP of $249 for the Osight S and $229 for the Osight X.
