Everybody loves a good .22 because they’re affordable, fun to shoot and don’t weigh you down. Ruger is taking that last point to an extreme with the latest version of the 10/22 Carbine.
The new 10/22 Carbine uses high-end materials to get its overall weight down to a featherweight of 3.5 pounds – that’s a whole pound less than the 10/22 Takedown Lite!

The magic of shedding pounds starts with the Magpul MOE X-22 stock. Its rigid polymer construction is plenty strong, but it only comes with an 18.9-ounce weight penalty. The one Magpul builds for Ruger gets a unique splatter-paint job that adds some texture for improved grip.
If you don’t mind adding a few ounces – and let’s be real, there’s room for a few on this carbine – you can add an M-LOK bipod and a QD sling.
The expensive weight savings come on the barrel. It’s a 16.1-inch, hammer-forged stainless steel, tensioned barrel with a carbon fiber sleeve.
It’s light but not flimsy; Ruger touts increased rigidity on this barrel. It’s also threaded so you can add a rimfire suppressor.
While Ruger was busy bestowing this .22 with exquisite gifts, it only made sense to use an equally up-spec trigger. The Ruger BX-Trigger has a weight of approximately 2.75 pounds and improved break, overtravel, and reset compared to the basic 10/22 trigger.
You’ll still get the same 10/22 action shooters have loved for generations. This looks a rock-solid plinker, target rifle, and small-game getter. You just won’t have to work as hard to carry it.
Ruger lists an MSRP of $649 for the new 10/22 carbine model 31220.
As a bonus, we also just got news of a new 10/22 Competition that’s a lightweight alternative to the Ruger Precision Rimfire. It’s a featherweight in the precision world at 4.2 pounds, but nowhere near this new 10/22 Carbine. It’s also breathtakingly expensive at $1,129 MSRP!
