It’s hard to make a splash in the polymer striker-fire pistol market these days. But street prices well under $250 sure get our attention!
The new Taurus GX2 is all about making quality CCW guns accessible to the masses. It’s affordable, but you don’t have to make too many sacrifices to keep the cost down.

The GX2 is a compact pistol designed for everyday carry and home defense. The foundation is conventional – polymer frame, steel slide, striker-fire action – but it also has a manual safety that might make first-time gun owners more comfortable carrying it with one in the chamber.
Capacity is 13+1 and 10-round state-compliant versions are available. That’s respectable, if not quite in the ballpark of the latest CCW magazine innovations.
Size-wise, the whole package is smaller and lighter than a Glock 19. You can also opt for a bare stainless steel slide if you prefer the two-tone look.
The polymer frame sports a three-notch section of Picatinny rail where you can mount a weapon light. Given the price, this might be a great host for the Fenix GL19R V2 we got our hands on a while back.
The GX2 is not optic-ready, so you’ll be stuck with iron sights. That’s a bummer for many of us but it won’t bother people who like to keep their concealed carry pistol slick. At least the GX2 is compatible with Glock sights, so there’s a wealth of aftermarket upgrades available if you get the modifying bug.
As I mentioned, the GX2’s best feature is the price. Taurus lists an impulse-buy-worthy MSRP of $309.99 for the GX2.
The current lineup of Taurus pistols can be a little confusing but the common theme is affordability. During our GX4XL review, we found it to be a great buy for the money.
