If you have a gun safe for your home defense pistol, I’ll take a guess and say it’s sitting on your nightstand.
That’s a logical place to keep it, but it does clutter up a spot that shares space with your cell phone and other personal effects – and it’s not exactly inconspicuous. That’s why Vaultek previously launched the DS2i Smart Station, a safe that doubles as a charging station and looks like a normal alarm clock.
Now, there’s a new model with more space and advanced features: the Vaultek DS5i Smart Station. At first glance, it’s a real beast.

Locking mechanisms make or break a safe. In the case of the DS5i, you have lots of options, and they’re all good.
The safe’s body is made from 16-gauge steel and incorporates tamper-resistant features to prevent it from being pried open.
You can take security a step further with a four-foot security cable or screw-down mounting plate.
The biometric scanner inside the DS5i can store 20 fingerprints. The eight-digit keypad (compared to four digits on the DS2i) creates 19 million possible codes. You can open the safe wirelessly with the app or purchase a Nano Key separately. You can always gain access with backup manual keys if your safe loses power.
Inside the secure compartment, there’s enough room for two full-size pistols, magazines, and personal items.
When activated, the safe quickly – and silently – opens the drawer to give you access without drawing attention.
Of course, the Smart Station does more than lock up your pistol. The DS5i has two wireless charging pads, two standard USB ports, two USB-C ports, and an improved display that provides all the information you need at a glance.
Don’t want all that display information? Just tap the display to only show the time, temperature, and humidity, or turn it off completely with blackout mode.
Vaultek lists an MSRP of $499.99 for the DS5i Smart Station.
