Does the AMG name sound familiar? It’s reserved for special optics at the very top of the Vortex arsenal. This one fits the bill.

This LPVO’s 1-10-power magnification can handle everything from close-quarters carbine drills to longer shots on silhouette-style targets. If you want a do-it-all optic for defense and competition, this looks like an excellent option.

Pew Pew Tactical Content Producer & Lead Review Analyst Sean Curtis got his hands on one early, and he was seriously impressed!

The magnification ring is a big change from the LPVOs you might be used to. The throw is incredibly fast, meaning you don’t have to rotate your hand very far to get from minimum to maximum magnification.

The lever is also molded into the ring itself. That’s handy, because throw levers that you have to bolt on tend to loosen up over time, and sometimes I worry about breaking them.

Elevation and windage turrets are both capped. You can remove the caps and zero the turrets without tools. These turrets also allow you to set two separate zeroes – that’s seriously clever.

Want to run supersonic and subsonic ammo, shoot suppressed and unsuppressed, or keep accurate data for M193 and M855? This system lets you do that with no mental guesswork in the field.

Despite all this tech and performance, the AMG 1-10x24 FFP is smaller than most LPVOs. That’ll be welcome news to those of you who want Trijicon VCOG or Nightforce ATACR performance without strapping a bunch of bulk and extra weight to your AR-15.

The biggest and most significant departure from tradition is this optic’s country of origin. Vortex is making it right here in the USA from Japanese components.

That should satisfy shooters who have been calling for domestic products from Vortex, but it comes at a price. Buckle up.

Vortex lists an MSRP of $6,399.99 for the AMG 1-10x24 FFP, although I’ve already seen retail prices under $4,000.
