Editor’s Note: The IWI Masada is a 9mm polymer, striker-fired pistol that provides a low bore axis, improved and adaptable ergonomics, fully ambidextrous controls, and an optics-ready slide, all at a reasonable price point. Its 4.1-inch button-rifled barrel and 17-round capacity make it an ideal size for those seeking a reliable duty weapon. "Named after an ancient fortification, the Masada is everything you would expect from a modern carry/duty firearm. Roughly the same size profile as the Glock 19, this gun is good to go right from the box." - David Lane

"The IWI Masada is a really compelling EDC gun that’s geared for any role you would normally see a G19, but upgraded in nearly every way. Optics ready, railed for a flashlight, nicely designed, and under $480." - David Lane
The IWI Masada has great ergonomics and the three dot combat sights are easy to pick up. IWI also has night sights on their web site if you want to swap them and of course, the plates for varying red dots as mentioned in the article. The Glock will have more after-market support; however in my opinion, the Masada is an excellent alternative and if you are seeking the Toyota 4Runner in terms of reliability and aesthetics, the Masada could be right for you too. Ultimately, range time and training make any gun better than another. You could own a gucci safe queen with all the bells and whistles if you do not train. I am so thrilled with my Masada that I will likely buy a Masada Slim for my daughter when she is of age.

As a first time gun buyer with a starter budget, I spent several months reading reviews, watching videos, and researching the alternatives. I am left eye dominant and favor left handed shooting but my son shoots right handed and I practice both. Therefore, fully ambidextrous controls was my number one priority, followed by reliability and price. Masada checks all my boxes. I picked up the tactical model at a local gun show and the boy and I put the first 300 rounds through it with no malfunctions. As newer shooters with limited range time I can't comment much on accuracy other than to say the first couple of mags were all over the place but the last few were all within 4 or 5 inches at 25 ft. I am very happy with my Masada and would buy it again. It's a great pistol at a great price, especially if you want the ambi controls.
